The Osborne 1 was probably the first portable computer, it came out in 1981 and weighed 26 pounds. It had a 4.4 inch screen and was sized to fit under a standard airline seat.

The macbook air is the latest greatest laptop as of 2008, it weighs about 3 pounds. It has a 13.3 inch screen and was sized to fit in a manila enveloped.
